Musings from a guy trying to understand the times and know what to do about it.

About

On the slim chance you’re not a member of my family or of an existing circle of acquaintance, here’s what you probably should know about me before you invest any time in reading anything I have to say…

Michael's mug.

Michael's mug.

I’m a 33-year old husband and father. I’ve been married to the lovely Suzanne for 11 years, and we have two fantastic daughters, aged 4.5 and almost 3. We have one amazing son, 8 months old and 23 pounds. Solid!

I’m a Christian who works full-time as the Director of Worship and Discipleship at Concordia Lutheran Church in Penticton, BC. I lead musical worship most Sundays, and oversee the creative arts and tech efforts of our congregation, as well as function in some other pastoral and leadership roles. I’ve been in “vocational” ministry for 9 years now. I’m passionate about what I and we do, I have an entrepreneurial spirit, and as a result I can generally be found trying to follow God’s leading in all sorts of unexpected directions and endeavors.

I’m also a painter. No, not a paint-brush-and-canvas type of painter. I suck at that. But with words, I’m a painter. There are “pointers”, who just get to the point, and people like me, who tend to want to draw images and set contexts, and use a lot of words in the process. (Of course, if you’ve gotten this far, you’re well aware of that already…thanks for sticking it out.) (Oh, I also like to follow a lot of rabbit-trails and have a lot of parenthetical thoughts. It’s not ADD, it’s curiosity. Really.) So a lot of my posts will start out as a paragraph and end up as an article.

I hope that what I offer is of some use to you. It’ll be eclectic, as I’m the spitting image of the proverbial jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. But that’s part of what keeps me so very interested in things. I hope that, if you find use in what I offer, you’ll offer some thoughts back through comments. And I hope that, in the process, we’ll get to know each other better, learn together, and have a lot of fun along the way. my icon
