Book Reflection: The Reason for God

    Friday, January 30, 2009

Pastor Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York has written a simply fantastic book. He’s been a pastor for 20+ years, and this book is an exposition of the 7 most common objections to Christianity that he’s been engaged in over his time in ministry. The book is called “The Reason for God: [...]

    Really? I mean…really?

    Friday, January 30, 2009

Ok, I’m getty ready for a message in a couple weeks dealing with anger, and wrestling with all that entails from a Christian perspective. Concepts like righteous anger, being angry without sinning, Jesus getting angry, and others are all floating around in my head right now, soon to coalesce into something coherent. Hopefully.
    So when I [...]

Book Reflections: A New Year’s Experiment

    Friday, January 23, 2009

I’m an avid reader. I love reading and learning, and books are a great way to learn from all sorts of people that I will probably never get the chance to meet in real life. Though I like fiction books, I’ve really been into non-fiction lately – theology, church leadership, media, design, entrepreneurship, and more. [...]

    Obamaicon.me

    Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I watched the inauguration of President Obama this morning and was inspired by his careful blend of candidness and diplomacy throughout his speech. Then I saw this – Obamaicon.me – from Guy Kawasaki on Twitter, and it intrigued me.
My first question is what does this say about our culture and its approach to art, that [...]

Filtering, or whom do you trust?

    Monday, January 19, 2009

“I don’t need a million answers, just one good one.”
That’s WebMD’s brilliant new tagline in their TV spots. It’s a great example of WebMD trying to position itself as a medical filter for you; a trusted place that makes sense of the overwhelming amount of medical advice you can find online. They want you to [...]

Cross post: A gift worth sharing

    Tuesday, January 13, 2009

It might seem odd to post on one blog, saying “I just posted on my other blog”, but that’s what I’m doing here. My Redeemer blog is really for stuff directly related to my work, and this one will be sometimes that, and sometimes stuff that’s completely unrelated. So there may be some “cross posting” [...]

Reflections of a minivan owner, or Goodbye Tin Man

    Sunday, January 11, 2009

So we have two little girls at home, who are a great delight. We have another baby (we are told he will be a he) due in March, and so the inevitable time had come to seek out appropriate transportation for 2 adults and 3 car seats. Since we can’t afford (to buy or to [...]

    Stop-motion comes to life

    Sunday, January 4, 2009

I’ve always been fascinated by video. “Moving pictures” tell stories in ways that no other medium can. I’ve also always been fascinated by stop-motion animation. Maybe it’s because of all the cartoons I watched growing up, or interest in kids’ flip books. And over the last few days I’ve been thinking about how those two things are related, and thus why I’m interested in both art forms.

    New Year Experiments

    Happy New Year!
What’s the one word we all loathe around this time of year? Yup, resolutions. Make ‘em and break ‘em, that’s the spirit! That’s really what goes on, isn’t it? There’s just one thing that keeping a new year’s resolution takes: resolve. Seems like in most of us, me included, that resolve isn’t really [...]
